A water-resistance number is a stated rating under test conditions, not an instruction to take every watch to that depth. A 200M marking does not by itself establish certified diving suitability, and seal condition changes over time.
Compare ratings with construction and condition
Ask about the exact model, crown, intended activity and any relevant testing. A higher stated rating can be useful when comparing otherwise suitable watches, but condition and maintenance still matter. The collection name is not proof of certification.
Understand everyday risks
Avoid hot showers, steam and saunas. Keep the crown closed and do not adjust controls underwater. After the case has been opened for service or a battery replacement, ask about seal inspection and pressure testing before returning to regular water use.
Choose for your activity
For occasional splashes, daily wear and planned swimming, ask for model-specific guidance. For diving, require explicit suitability and the appropriate information for the exact watch. Do not use a general buying guide or a depth marking as a substitute for that confirmation.
Compare a current model
